Using an Old PC as a file server

Hello all,

I am a Game Developer and I want to have a launcher for my game to install it and update it etc. Could I have my old Dell desktop and use Ubuntu to use it as a file server for people to install the game?

yes and no.

yes you can do that..

but NO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT.

even if you're a small-time developer, everything you have the end user access should be in a datacenter. there's some datacenters out there that rent out VPSes or even tiny physical boxes for very little money. if you're anywhere near a serious developer, do it properly.
