Keyboard switches

Gillo2011

Im looking at buying my first mechanical keyboard and just want some advice as to what switch would be the best for me. I want it to be comfortable to type with still a good gaming experience. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Try them out. It's a preference thing. Try not to gamble on a switch if you haven't tried it before.

Have you tried any switches yet? I recommend doing that to help with your decision

First, the common switch types and their differences

MX Black

  • Linear up/down switch
  • Not-tactile (can't feel if the key is pressed down to the point it activates)
  • Non-clicky (doesn't make a clicking sound when you press on it)
  • 60g (can be up to 80g) of actuation force needed (how much force u need to press down on it for it to trigger)

MX Brown

  • tactile up/down switch
  • Tactile switch (you can feel it when it is pressed down to the point it activates)
  • Non-clicky
  • 55g

MX Blue

  • Tactile up/down
  • Tactile switch
  • Clicky
  • 60g

MX Red

  • Linear up/down switch
  • Non-tactile
  • Non-clicky
  • 45g

IMO, MX Brown is my preferred choice.

The type-writer clicky sound from the MX Blue switches annoys me...and the people around me.

The MX Black switch is nice, but they are quite heavy. It can make your hand tired after a long gaming session.

MX Red is too soft / sensitive due to the lower force required.

I had a Corsair K60 keyboard that uses MX Red switches. It ticked me off as the keys were way too sensitive. I would accidentally trigger them when I don't want to. I gave it to my brother. He hates it as well.

I'm back to a membrane Logitech G110 Keyboard until Corsair releases a Anodized Black K70 keyboard with MX Brown switches (or something else with MX Brown switches catches my eyes).

EDIT: Oh I total forgot about this. This could help you: http://www.overclock.net/t/491752/mechanical-keyboard-guide
