Is it possible to enable G-Sync compatible on 900 series (and lower) ?

Hi,

I have seen the video about the hacked driver with the mining GPU. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1nok2VlF1M)

Is something like this also possible to enable G-Sync compatible on a 900 series and earlier on a FreeSync monitor? Nvidia claims you mush have a 10 or 20 series graphics card... (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/geforce-rtx-2060-g-sync-compatible-game-ready-driver/)

I believe Gsync is supported back as far as the 600 series in some cases

Edit:

Not if OP meant Gsync support on Freesync monitors, then the answer is 'No' from what I've gathered.

No, it has something to do with a particular spec that Nvidia started including from the 10-series GPUs and above.

+1 in this instance. To my knowledge, there's no circumvent to this limitation, at least not yet anyway. The unlocking of gsync is fairly new still however, so that may change at some point, unless it's truly a hardware limitation.

I think it's a software limitation...

I've not done a whole lot of research on the subject, unfortunately, so I don't know much either way on the matter.

I'm running a 10-series card with a Gsync monitor, which has given me little reason to need to know more on what exactly is unlocked where and how, as well as why, and when :P

No, it's because as far as I know 900-series cards do not support DisplayPort 1.2a, but only 1.2 instead and the 1.2a is required for Adaptive Sync via DP to work

Oh well it was worth a try :)

It's stupid IMO, but at least according to Nvidia it's true:

Quote

Maxwell and below do not support the Displayport 1.2a standard. Adaptive Sync requires DisplayPort 1.2a. There is some confusion over the graphics firmware update tool we provide:

https://www.nvidia.com/object/nv-uefi-update-x64.html

The tool enables new features on the graphics card so that it does not display a black screen on P.O.S.T. with DisplayPort 1.3 and DisplayPort 1.4 monitors but it does not enable DisplayPort 1.2a on the card.

Sum up: The graphics card needs DP1.2a or HDMI 2.1 which cards prior 10 series didn't have...

Thanks for the information!
