Hey Guys,

I'm currently looking into getting a new GPU and while doing my Research I found the different Nvidia Card Names to be really confusing.

I got that the RTX Line has the currently useless Raytracing Technology and the GTX not, but other than that.

Is a 2070 better than a 1080? or a 2060? I as far as I've read it so far, the 1080 is still better than for example a 2070 (unless you really want the Raytracing thingy) is that correct?

So if I were looking for a solid GPU with no RTX for a reasonable Price (around 600), what would be my best Option?

It is not just Ray Tracing but its new techie and has DLSS among other things.  What resolution are you looking to play games at ?

1060 and 2060 = 1080p gaming

1070 and 2070 = 1080p gaming and 1440p gaming with medium to high in game settings

1080 and 2080 = 1440p at triple digit frame rates.

1080Ti and 2080Ti = 4k gaming but 1080Ti can barely handle it while the 2080Ti will give you 60fps without dips.

Hope this clears up some confusion for you.

1440p but MIGHT upgrade to 4K in the future, but for now 1440p at a 144Hz Gsync Monitor. Currently I have a 980Ti but with Games like Anthem and the new Division on the Horizon its just not enough for 1440p with higher Framerates.

So if I want to stay at 1440p my best bet would be a 1080 or 2080 (does the 2080 bring me any noticeable benefits other than the Raytracing Feature?

Dont know If I would go second hand in fear of getting ripped of by getting a broken Card or a one with Coil whine or anything like that. Or is it in general no Problem to buy a used GPU?

Thanks for the help :)

Buy a 2070 or a 2080 , wich budget fits you, a 2070 is like a 1080 in raw performance, so you are buying a 1080 from this year (well last). A 1080ti could be good but only if seller has some warranty left or gives you any kind of.

and for 600$ buy a good 2070.

Yes but also note the RTX card has GDDR6 while the 1080 has GDDR5.  So essentially the 2080 crames the 1080 and defeats the 1080Ti as well.  Grab the 2070 RTX if your going to play at 1440p, but note you might have to turn down some game options to get some nice triple digit frames per second and what not.

2070 is really a bad buy, not that much faster than 2060 but costs considerably more. In your case, i would not go below 1080 Ti or 2080, if u want to utilize your refresh rate, but even then you will not be able to max out all games, not even 2080 Ti will do it.

No I dont need to run +144fps ^^ but something arround 90 would be great (60minimum)

Oh and I do sometimes play some VR with my Oculus Rift, but I have the feeling that most newer AAA Games need more performance then some of the more demanding VR Games.

You're looking at a GTX 1080 Ti, RTX 2080 or Radeon VII territory to achieve best graphical quality at 100ish fps at 1440p on the latest and greatest games.

You gonna need at least an i7 8700K too, the RTX 2080 Ti would be desirable obviously the more the better but it's really premium product with a hefty price tag.

The RTX 2070 is a waste of time, there are games where it'll perform identically to the RTX 2060, on best case scenario we see no more than 5% performance uplift which usually is no more than a couple of frames per second, the card shouldn't even exist, it only does so nVidia has an excuse to charge even more expensively the RTX 2080.

Oh good point, I think my System is rocking a i7 6700/6800K sooo, does that mean that the CPU would bottleneck my RTX2080? Or would that be still "okay"? Really dont wanna replace my whole System XD

At that price range there are literally zero options. The 2070 as mentioned above is quite possibly the worst gpu of the rtx range. Why? Because Nvidia made the 2060 perform similarly at a much lower price point in order to combat the incoming AMD Navi which is rumoured to beat the 2070 at the same price point as the 2060.

If you don't mind the power consumption, go for the vega 64. It offers performance in between the 2060 and 2070 at a price in between the two. (but closer to the 2060). If you don't care about those silly early features then the vega 64 is great. It has HBM2 which is arguably on par with GDDR6, giving you 2gb more than the 2060 and the same as the 2070 at a lower price point than the 2070. I think that is the gpu you are looking for. One that offers a middle ground.

Not to mention, you can undervolt and achieve similar power consumption to Turing.

Or you can make the step up to just over 600 and get the 2080. It's pathetic value but it's really the only option up there.

Either could still be alright actually, the 6700K is decent enough still, CPU bottlencking only on extremely CPU intensive games like AC Origins/Odyssey and even so the GPU will still be justified.

Would rather stay in the Nvidia Eco System, I know Radeon now has OpenCL and Metal as render Engines for Content creation, but I feel that Cuda is still the better Option in that regards. (You know how it is, a Man will never switch his Razors Brand^^)

Oh good, I also could overclock it a little bit more, got a pretty beefy cooler on it and currently its only overclocked by 7% (at least thats what the boot screen is telling me).

In that case, it's the 2060 or the 2080. Just don't waste your money on that disgraceful 2070.
