Dark rock 4 pro help, cpu fan error

Hello, I recently built my first pc, I am using a i7 9700k and I heard it runs quite hot and I didn't feel comfortable using a hydro cooler so I used a Be Quiet dark rock 4 pro cooler which has 2 fans, one just above the DIMM slots and another in the centre of the cooler just above the processor.

I used the ASUS Maximus hero XI motherboard and the cpu fan power pins where above a heat sink, this caused me to install the cooler near the end of the build which meant I wasn't able to get the second fan in the centre of the cooler. The cooler works fine even with 1 fan with the CPU sitting at around 28 degrees Celsius idle.

But, the issue I have is that I installed the splitter that would be used to install both fans but only one of the fans is plugged into the splitter, this causes a error screen when the computer boots, it displays CPU fan error, at which point I have to go to the bios and then boot to windows. I can't take out the spitter unless I take out the CPU cooler which is all a hassle.

Is there a way to avoid the error screen so that it just boots to windows and if not, I had an idea but I don't know if its suitable or not. I have a spare case fan, and I was thinking, would I be able to install the case fan at the top of the case in front of the cpu cooler and just plug it in to the splitter. if anyone could offer any insight into this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

you should be able to go into your BIOS and disable the warning.

Can you connect the cable to the motherboard 1st before you connect the fans?

This is also what I experienced with my NH-D15 on MSI motherboard, which the CPU_Fan header is blocked by the heatsink. I connected the fan cable to the motherboard CPU_Fan header before I even install the cooler, that way is much easier than connect the cable to the fan 1st before connecting to the motherboard.

The easiest step order to get the job done is,

1. Connect the fan cable to motherboard CPU_Fan header,

2. Install cooler on to the CPU & motherboard,

3. Connect the cable to the fans and install the fans to the heatsink.

That's how I did in dealing with a big CPU air cooler.

Which splitter connector do you use with the fan?

When we use a splitter cable for fan, let's say 2 way splitter cable, one of the connectors only has 3 pins available of 4 like  [ I I - I ]  while the other connector has all of 4 pins available like  [ l l l l ]

Make sure you connected the fan on the 4 pins  [ l l l l ]  connector and leave the 3 pins  [ I I - I ]  empty if you don't want to use the other fan.

I was going to install the cpu cooler onto the motherboard and then install the motherboard, but if I did that I would not have been able to connect the CPU power cable into the 8 pin connector, the case wouldn't allow me to pull the cpu connector through the top of the case, so I had to compromise, the computer is fully built and works fine, its just the error screen is more of a inconvenience than an annoyance.

The F1 fan error is from the lack of fan detected on the cpu_fan header or if the rpm is too low. If the fan is working fine, you can disable the fan warning in the motherboard settings.
