If you don't care about price, the 9900K is superior in the vast majority of uses cases than any equivalent-core AMD CPU.  But it is more expensive, and the price-to-performance ratio of a 9900k as far as rendering & gaming goes, is definitely worse than a Ryzen 2-series setup.  If price is no object, 9900k all the way.

Primary Rig:

CPU: AMD 7800X3D @ Stock PBO - Mobo: Gigabyte X670E AORUS Master

CPU Cooler: EK AIO that will be being replaced when I get the chance - PSU: eVGA P2 1200W

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC @ either 2595MHz @ 900mV or 2970MHz @ 1070mV

I am currently running a Lenovo Ideacenter with a Ryzen 5 1400 and a radeon r340. im going to upgrade but unsure if i want an i9 9900k or a Ryzen 7 2700x. i will be gaming, video editing and rendering and streaming. also i do plan on OC.

Need more Infos.

What is your thing used for?

Why Upgrade now and not wait for Ryzen 3000 series, that should be announced in a month or two, maybe 4.

That has superior manufacturing, lower power consumption and up to 16 Cores. IPC looks to be either on par with Intel or superior, depending on application, from what we know.

So why not just put a Ryzen 5/2600 inside, as your OEM Board probably doesn't support more than 65W.

And also there is the Question of the Motherboard:
What do you use?
Can you use an ATX Adaptor and PSU or is that impossible?

What do you really need for an upgrade??

I don't see a reason to waste money on an Intel CPU when we:
a) don't know what you're doing with it

b) we don#t know what GPU you have.

So first priority should be to get a decent GPU, as long as it fits and can be used in your system.
