Lowered FPS after changing CPU+ Mobo?

Hiho there,

I recently switched to X299 7980XE from Z390. So when I used the same drive, it booted but it had to install bunch of new drivers and prepare devices for like 10 minutes. I used the same drive that I would on Z390.

Then I switched back again to Z390 and then it had to install drivers yet again, and it went through the process.

This morning just for my own sanity, I ran The Division benchmark with G-Sync disabled and no V-Sync so there's no frame limit cap.

I had 206 FPS and even if I kept running the benchmark few times, but before I installed X299 I was getting consistently 220FPS. I used 1440p ultra preset for all benchmark, just from the list without changing any of the settings.

Even 7980XE at 4.5Ghz was getting about 217 FPS average.

I usually run CPU at 5.0Ghz, but then I OCed it to 5.2Ghz and there was 0 improvement.

Do I have to reinstall the entire system to get it back / are the drivers the issue?

Maybe? Given it's only a 7% difference at more than 200 FPS I wouldn't think much about it. If you really want to you can reinstall though.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I shall do that. Thanks.

A fresh install is I'd say mandatory after a Motherboard and CPU swap.

You might not get more FPS though. 3 frames don't really matter when you are already that high and you also have to consider that you are using a different CPU so, maybe it doesn't play as nicely with some things.

You mean 15 frames? With the exact same settings and same CPU as before?

I meant the 7980xe but, for the 9900k it's most likely Windows being a bit confused after so many hardware swaps.

7980XE always gave 217. It's when I switched back to Z390 it went to 205 or 203. I'll reinstall, no choice.

Also, a good idea to always install the drivers and all that yourself. I wouldn't trust Windows with any of that.
