The Ryzen 2400G has integrated graphics, the 2600 does not. This means if you are planning on buying the Ryzen 2600 you will also need to buy a dedicated graphics card as well.

you may cut a bit on these, 550w bronze psu and skip 1tb for now.

see how much you are willing to pay for gpu (minimum of rx570 for casual gaming)

A CPU just crunches numbers, its not able to give any display output. Many CPUs have whats called an "iGPU" which means it has an integrated graphics chip in the CPU, which is low power, but can give you a basic display output. Many systems have an iGPU, but since its so weak, you add a dedicated GPU which is WAY faster than the weak iGPU in the CPU. Many high end CPUs forgo the iGPU altogether in favor of more space for the actual CPU (and you don't have to power the igpu and it doesn't produce heat and your budget is all on CPU not paying for an igpu you don't use). A ryzen 2400g is unique in that it has an iGPU that is actually not half bad, way way better than any of Intel's iGPUs. thats why is very popular in budget gaming builds. the Ryzen 2600, although a faster in raw CPU performance, does not include an iGPU so a dedicated GPU is required.

I think it will be a decent system to handle those games.

Gaming - Ryzen 5800X3D | 64GB 3200mhz  MSI 6900 XT Mini-ITX SFF Build

Home Server (Unraid OS) - Ryzen 2700x | 48GB 3200mhz |  EVGA 1060 6GB | 6TB SSD Cache [3x2TB] 66TB HDD [11x6TB]

So the R5 2400G is a better choice for him

If you're trying to stick to this budget , definitely. Going for the ryzen 2600 means spending around $200 more for a good GPU to match.

OP, remember the integrated graphics may be enough for now,

but once a gpu is added, you cannot use both igpu and gpu. meaning igpu will be wasted at that point. leaving just a temp backup

well forza 4 is a little hard to run. on an fx 9590 and a 970 it runs at a solid 20 frames.
