What monitor to get?

3VIL_G3NIUS

I'm looking at getting a new monitor to use as a primary display now that I have a desk with plenty of room. It needs to be available in New Zealand, so anything on http://pricespy.co.nz/category.php?k=393 is great. What I'm after is something that is colour accurate enough for photo editing but not 10bit professional level because of the price premium. I would like 27-30" and would consider the 21:9 panels too if they fit the other criteria. I'd also like to know what 24" monitor would be the same performance as a larger one so I can see the price difference. I'll also be using it for movies and gaming, but nice colours and good contrast are a preference over faster panels. As for resolution I'm not sure, how bad is 1080 on a 27" monitor?

So if anyone can help me out with what would be good, thanks.

Would you benefit from high refresh rates? Great colors? Or what? We need a bit more info.

I'm currently using this: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=946255 for my photo editing, gaming and watching movies. Have been for two years now, and it's great!

I wouldn't consider going up to 27" unless you're committing to 2560x1600. 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 on such a big panel isn't "that" great. Things look way too big in my opinion.

Personally I'm waiting until I can get a good deal on the 4k dell 24". Actually come to think, the 27" 4k dell monitor is supposed to be really good panel wise, accurate colours, IPS, and pretty darn low cost in comparison to others in the same category (It's going to be around $600 I've heard).

EDIT:

Not to mention the 27" 4k dell monitor is 10-bit too! Bargain if you ask me.

Depends on what it is. The cheaper the better without sacrificing what specs I'm after.

I think I explained it well enough. I said I want accurate colours for photo editing, and I prefer good contrast and colours over fast panels. I don't care for super high refresh rates, 60hz is perfectly acceptable imo :)

Hmm, the 2560x1600 are definitely a lot more expensive than 24" and 27" 1080 monitors. It's just that the 3 extra inches on a 27" seems to make quite a difference.

Those 4k monitors will be beautiful but then I'd need to spend so much on a graphics card to make the most of it :P

The 28" 4k from Dell is not using an IPS panel but TN, plus it has a 30Hz refresh rate.

Wait for prices to come down for higher resolution monitors or just buy a korean 2560X1400 monitor. I am waiting for a 2560X1440 IPS panel with G-Sync for about £700

A rough budget would still help.

You could still make use of 4k for desktop yluse if not for gaming. You could play in 1080p or even 1440p with scaling and just use 4k for productivity. The extra pixels are more useful for the desktop real estate than for gaming to be honest.

My bad, I was confusing it for the 32" model.
