My Chinese SSD Problem?

Void_Viking

Hello all,I bought a cheaper 1TB to save money, but I think that may have been a mistake..

While playing Apex Legends, my screen will completely freeze up for about 3-4 seconds then continue normally. This happens 3+ times a match.

I had my resource monitor open while this occurred and noticed that my disk usage spikes up to 100% at the same moment these freezes happen.

ALSO My fans kick up while this freeze is happening, but temps are low on both CPU and GPU.

Could this be my issue?

So you got a cheap 1tb sketchy ssd is what I am understanding.  What are your specs and other components?  Does this occur on other games?  How fast are you boot times?

I forgot to add that my fans kick up when this happens as well, but temps are fine.

Ryzen 5 1600, gtx 1070 8gb founders. 8GB DDR4 2800

Boot times are like 3-4 times faster than my HHD.

It started occurring in APEX 2nd day of release. I assume that it could just be the game itself, but I haven't found anyone else with this issue. And the fact that my Disk spikes to 100 at the same time... I just don't know.

Speeds look pretty normal to me. Does this issue occur anywhere else? Slow boot times?

Try searching for "Optimize Disk" or "Disk Defragment" (Windows Search Bar). First make sure it is set to know it is a Solid State drive but it should already know that, then click optimize. This will "trim" the disk. If this is a new install with a bunch of writes having just been made installing games I could see where maybe the SSD hasn't been trimmed yet and performance is suffering. It will take your SSD some time, usually even longer than the percentage bar in Windows. Go give it a few minutes and see what happens.
