Rainbow Six Random high ping

I have had Rainbow Six siege for quite some time now, and have had no issues. Today, when I joined a game, I noticed that in the leaderboard, it was saying that I had a ping of over 700. When I looked at the menu however, It said that my ping was only 39, which is what it generally says. The server hasn't changed, I am still using EUS. Btw, I have a gtx 1050, intel Pentium g4560, and 12gb ddr4, and have had no issues before, just today. Because of this high ping, I then get kicked from the match. When I did an internet speed test, it said a ping of >1ms. My ping in discord is also quite high. I guess I am just confused by the fact that the internet speed test gave me such a low ping, and it is low in the menu.

So your not having hardware problem.  try going to command prompt and type www.yahoo.com and see what ping you get.  Have to be the servers are bunk or far away.

Oh dang, that is giving me  500. Must be that my parents are watching tv.

those tests will always give you low ping since they use the nearest server to test your connection, for example a local server gives me 70 ping and an international server gives me over 600 which is why I can't play any online games since the servers are always in the US or european countries

 

also wifi adds lag even if you stand in the way between the router and receiver or if you put something made of aluminum/steel or a wall inbetween too

TV shouldn't affect your speed if you have a coax connection there is a splitter that, well, splits the TV and internet signals and sends each one to its place, tv or cablemodem

TV shouldn't affect your speed if you have a coax connection there is a splitter that, well, splits the TV and internet signals and sends each one to its place, tv or cablemodem 

My parents are using Netflix on the tv. I would think tho that I would get still a low ping since I am using an ethernet cable.

you get a high ping because QoS isn't configured on your router and any new request hogs 100% of the bandwidth instead of a specified % so everything gets out of control

 

you could configure it and assign X amount of Kbps/Mbps to each device to get rid of high ping

Eh, I mean, its really rare that my parents are watching tv, and I am not down there with them, so it is not much of an issue. They finally turned the tv off, and my ping is normal again, thanks.

Then something else is using your network. Probably some download. You can check your PCs download/network use from Task manager. If you have wifi, make sure its secured with password and then check every other device in house to see if something is downloading updates etc.

There should be nothing else that is using the Internet. And if there was a download going on, it would have finished by now. I have had this issue for the past couple hours, and still have an extremely high ping. Btw, I checked the ping between my isp and another network, and that is at 57 ms, not great, but also doable.

Reset router and wait it out would be my next steps. If you are only getting this in single game, then you can play something else today and come back later.
