I I was thinking about buying this CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K 4.00 GHz Unlocked Quad Core Skylake Desktop Processor, Socket LGA 1151.

Should i worry about it saying the product is unlocked or go for a higher cpu that's not unlocked?

Why would you buy a CPU thats older and isn't as good as a new i7?

You can't even put the 6700k in the Z390 motherboard.

@mxk. I'm new to building a PC and don't have much experience just you tube videos and forums.  would you suggest this then?

Intel BX80677I77700K i7-7700 4.2GHz Kaby Lake Processor - 8.0GT-S44; 8MB LGA 1151 CPU

Ok, lemme lay this all out.

1) what games are you playing, what resolution are you playing, and what other things are you doing (editing, etc)

2) Only 8th and 9th gen CPUs from Intel work with Z390 and Z370 motherboards

3) I don't recommend picking up older CPUs because they're priced the same as the new ones and don't perform as well.

4) X299 motherboards are meant for very expensive Intel CPUs that are meant more for work, not for gaming

Nope, the i7-7700 would not work in any of the boards you suggested.

If you wanted to go Z390 (which would be your best option) then I would recommend an i7-8700K or an i7-9700K. I'd buy whichever is cheapest.

fyi the 6000 and 7000 series do use 1151 just like the 8000 and 9000 series, but because of some pin layout differences and intel in the way you can only use the 6000 and 7000 series in a z170 or z270 and a 8000 or 9000 series in a z370 or z390

x299 is a whole other socket, that will never work

Don't be too set on the strix x390-e. There are better boards for less money.

There's no reason to spend that much, to be honest. I'd pick up one of the Gigabyte Aorus Z390 motherboards. They have way better overclocking than the Asus motherboards, and I personally think they look better, too.
