GPUs don't support Ethernet connections for sure.

Don't know any motherboard (in case of iGPUs) that would support that either.

It's mostly used for giving Ethernet from some sort of receiver/player to the TV, but that is very rarely used here in EU AFAIK. Seems to be very niche product.

So no.

Afaik, you don't use display cables for data transfer other than digital or analog video output.

Why would you do that, when you can use a simple ethernet cable to get 1 gbps?  You can connect two computers without switches or anything, just plug the cable between two computers and give each computer a unique IP address and you can transfer files.

The ethernet channel inside the HDMI cable is only good for 100mbps, not ALL the cable is used for ethernet and the data isn't multiplexed with the video signal.  So you don't have 14.4/18gbps to play with (for hdmi 2.0), you only have 100mbps.

In theory, you could write a software that would run in full screen and simply dump the information on the screen, and you could have a capture card losslessly capture the information and the software then processes the captured images and splits the images into actual files on the computer.
You'd have to include in the frames metadata information (file name, file size, creation date, last modify date, all that jazz) and also include error correction information to reduce the number of times you have to retransmit chunks of data and you also need a channel to send information back to the source pc (that could be a usb 2.0 connection or regular ethernet etc)

In the end it's just not worth it, you'd get maybe 3-4 gbps worth of transfer but lossless capture cards would cost hundreds of dollars.

Makes more sense to just spend 70$ x 2 for two 10gbps ethernet cards, or around 50$ for two fiber ethernet cards and another 25-30$ for a fiber optic cable.

In all honesty, I am just curious what you are trying to achieve with this.  As Mariushm said, I would just snag a couple nice ethernet or fiber cards for you computers and connect them with proper ethernet or fiber cabling.
