Power Supply Switch Crackle

Hey guys,

 

I have an issue when I go to do some work on the PC or need to fully power down.

 

I press the on/off switch on the PSU and it makes a crackling, arcing like sound. The sort you might hear on an in line light switch.

 

I am guessing it's because the 5v rail is still drawing power to keep the system in standby. 

 

Whenever I turn off in this way, It needs to boot twice on next startup and I often see Error 41 in error logs.

 

The PSU makes no unusual sounds in normal operation.

 

I have everything from, it's completely normal to RMA NOW ?

 

Any views?

The Corsair RM?

 

You shut down your PC but it doesn't fully shut down? try disabling hibernation

How often are you turning the PSU off at the back of the PSU unit? Why are you turning it off at the back of the unit?

Whenever I need to do work on the system. Replace parts, cable manage etc. It's been through a few builds in this case and PSU. Only just started noticing the crackle though.

It is the Corsair RM850x how did you know? That might be a good idea. I heard it draws power anyway, just to be in standy. Using poswer from the USB's still plugged in.

Should be fine. Don't worry about it.
