how far to upgrade?

I would like to know what i should do, i have a AZROCK Z170 EXTREME4--- MB--and i have an i3 6100, SHould i get a a new chip for my board or get a new setup , I WANT TO BE ABLE TO VR and have no lag , my i3 is ok but my emulators stutter with my 2 cores , i think i need more......

 So this is my current rig setup.

ok...

you will need to upgrade both for VR. gpu to atleast gtx1060, cpu to atleast i5 8400

you didnt need to say alllllll of this... you could have just said i3 6100 + gtx 960 + 16gb ram. allll of that is just useless fluff

Any Core i5 would do fine (I guess, as long as it's quad-core), put more attention to the GPU, a GTX 1070 is what I'd say is the bare minimum, or a 2060, for the new gen.

i wanted to get a 7th gen i5 7600k or the 7700k i7 but  i cant find them for the 200 rang
