Hi all !

I'm currently running a GTX 980 windforce and earlier today while i was ripping down the dirt tracks in dirt rally my display went blank. I restarted the system and the display output was wrong. The post screen wasn't full screen, the text was blurry, then the BIOS image looked like it had over-scan on, then after the windows logo there was no signal. I proceeded to inspect the card physically for any damage (Oh yeah, i should probably mention that I was testing out an overclock of 100Mhz on GPU and 400Mhz on Vram (That was maybe over kill ?‍♂️ ) ). While inspecting i dissemble the heat sink (Interesting thing when i disassembled the heat sink is that the VRAM pads fell appart, who know's how old this card is), no apparent damage. I then plugged the HDMI in (No heatsink) just to see it post, and what do you know it's back to normal. I reapplied thermal past everywhere, the Vrams seem to be close enough to the heat sink for it to be cooled with thermal past, temps are fine etc...
So really the question here is, has anyone had a similar experience ?
What could be the problem with the DVI output ?

Thanks
Fred

I'd try a different DVI cable, and/or a different DVI monitor before you make conclusions about the port being dead. But if the card is old enough, and the DVI port was used enough, then it could be possible that the DVI port just gave up on life.
