Is it my monitor or my GPU?

Miguel S

Hello, I've had my computer for 2 years and I've been noticing in the last year or so that my monitor flashes randomly, like if I was turning it on and off, this happen in idle and in gaming no matter how stressed the card is, it can also happen for one minute straight or happen once and again next month it's really annoying, I have a GTX 950 2GB and my monitor is a BenQ GL2250, if anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it.

do you have another monitor or tv that you can use for a bit and if the flashing screen continues then you know that its the gpu. or swap the gpu and keep the monitor and if it continues you know its the gpu. and either option lets you know if its the monitor or gpu

It is likely the monitor. A friend of mine was having issues where specific games would cause the graphics drivers to crash. So, slowly, over nearly 2 years he completely swapped out every core component of his PC (with trial and error, and lots of help from me). Yet he still had these problems. We tried Displayport, DVI, 2 different HDMI cables, and his TV. On the TV he didn't get the crash. We finally came to the conclusion that it was his monitor when I ran the same games off of my laptop and experienced very strange frame skips. He also borrowed another monitor from someone else and managed to play for hours without issues.

The only thing you can do to solve this problem is swapping your GPU or monitor. If you don't have the monitor get a help from a friend.
