If I am currently rocking an spaceheater FX9590/RX580, what would be the lowest level Ryzen I could get an expect equal/step-up performance as the FX9590?
Looking to build a new PC for one of my kids, and I don't want to spend any more than I need to build him a comparable machine, and I want to stick with team red due to the AM4 longevity promises.

The FX 9590 is about 10-12% difference from my FX 8350...my Ryzen 7 1700 is lightyears ahead of my FX 8350.  That's just my testimony.

An R5 1600 will SMASH the FX 9590 (approx. 37% - 43% faster depending on the application.)

Get R5 2600 and you're set. Its the best price/performance CPU on the market and puts any FX CPU to shame.

Main system: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB 6000Mhz / Zotac RTX 5090 SOLID OC/ x2 WD_BLACK NS770 2TBs/ Corsair HX1000i/ NZXT H5 Flow

the lowest-end Ryzen 3 will anihilate FX-9590...but don't get that...buy a R5 2600 with a decent B450 motherboard and you'll be set for a little while.

(Give the FX-9590 to your kids, and keep the R5 2600 for you, obviously.)

But I like propping my feet up on it when it's cold outside!!!

Seriously though, the intention is to build him something that he can tinker with through highschool, but If I was going that route, I would be building whatever Ryzen 3 and Navi's flagships ends up being for myself, lol.
