Upgrading PC

Go to solution Solved by THraShArD,

Do you have m.2 support ? I can't find much info on your Lenovo.

According to this link it mentions m.2  - Also do you have 16GB of RAM with 1 empty slot ? I think it supports 32GB

The easiest way to find out what best Memory support is to just visit Crucial and enter you info there

Hello I recently went to PLE to get an SSD but when I showed him a picture of my motherboard he said that if they/I installed it could fail the whole computer could I get some help if my motherboard will accept the upgrade

What is PLE ?  If you have an SATA port on your motherboard it will accept it.   I see a PCIE slot on your board, so you definitely have an SATA port.

I've got a 12yo Dell Laptop with Generation 1 SATA and using a Gen 3 6gps SSD no problem.

I don't think you have any spare SATA connections to hook up your SSD too, that's probably why

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Ha that's some fresh BS right there, an SSD breaking a system? They use less power than a hard drive, and operate with the same interface, there's no feasible way that makes sense. Did they say how the whole system would fail? If you could get a specific reason it would be pretty useful to include in the original post.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

Do you have a total of 2 or 4 SATA Ports ?  Normally some SFF boards can have 6, but usually 4.

Do you have any eSATA plugs on the outside of case ? Maybe one of those cables lead to a SATA port you don't need.

I only have two SATA ports  one for my HDD and one for my DVD driver I can just unplug it from the DVD

Ok, yea you are limited.  Not sure why that PLE place being lazy.  They should have the proper migration tools to copy your current drive and copy it over to new SSD.

It can be done but my advice might be too complex and require an extra hard drive to get it all done and proper software.
