I am looking to use my tax return this year to build my first PC. I will be using the PC for gaming mostly and working from home. I work IT and do a lot of RDP work and use Skype for Business for VOIP. I am having a hard time deciding on a CPU and the things to go with it. I originally was looking at the Intel I7-8700K, however a coworker talked me into the i9-9900K, but I am still at a fork in the road. Is the extra Threads really worth the extra dough? I also want to know what would be the best Motherboard for each option. I *think* of going with a 1080 GPU (possibly 1080Ti) and at least 16GB of RAM. Any pros, cons, advice, first experiences, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

1. Don't get the 9900k

2. Get the 8700k

3. Used 1080/Ti?

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

For what reason? If they have the money for it, I see no problem in investing into it

Not quite sure on budget yet, I know at least $1200

Then you're looking at parts far outside of your budget,

I'd say get something similar to this:

I'd rather have OP spend the money on the GPU or more storage when 9c/18t won't really benefit him.
