You can boot without thermal paste but make sure the cooler is installed. Toothpaste can work surprisingly well even for an extended period of time if you don't have access to thermal paste.

I just bought a new system, and it has a used GPU and CPU (3 1300x). I want to boot to make sure it all works, but the cpu cooler has no thermal paste. The return date on the GPU goes out tomorrow, and my paste comes in a week (Shipping date mix up) can I use my CPU JUST to boot without thermal paste? I saw Tom's Hardware used tooth paste and it got 50c when in use.  Im kinda desperate.

Toothpaste to boot just to make sure you get video would at least make for a funny story. Presumably you've got the rubbing alcohol to clean it up afterwards?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Dont you have a PC store or similar in the area you could visit and just get a simple tube of paste?
Or do you have a friend around that does PC stuff too that has some paste lying around?

I mean, sure you can run it without paste to know it boots, but of course don't go running any stresstests.

Where I live (rural US) the nearest store is an hour drive (assuming traffic doesn't suck). I personally wouldn't drive that far just for paste, but that's just me.
