Hello, I am having an issue with my bios not saving. It will always reset after I turn off my main power. I have tried the following solution and unfortunately, it did not fix my issue.

  • Change a new battery
  • Remove the new battery, clear the bios using the jumper, reinstalling the battery
  • Swap out the new battery with another battery
  • Bending the metal tip slightly to improve contact

It would be a great help if you guys can give me some advice on how I can go about fixing this.

Motherboard: Asus Z97-A
Bios version: 3503 (recently flashed as attempt for trying to fix the issue)
Windows 10 x64

Nothing I can think of, you've covered it pretty much. Just one thing, maybe. Try yet another cr2032 battery, just in case the first one you swapped in was dodgy.

Other than that, if it really is wiping the CMOS, then it might be better to contact ASUS.

Hope you get it sorted, that would drive me insane with all the BIOS tweaks I have set. I'd leave my PC on permanently.

It definitely is driving me insane. Does it matter if I am using an Energizer CR2032 battery or is there a specific battery meant for CMOS?

No, anything is fine... most OEMs I have seen use cheapo batteries anyway. I usually use panasonic, but simply because I can get 12x for around £2 or so.

If changing to another battery still doesn't work, does that mean my mobo is slowly dying?

The CMOS/BIOS chip might be done... that's why I suggested contacting Asus, they might be able to help you troubleshoot the problem, and maybe even give you a fix.

No problem, hope you get it sorted... I can't imagine, I'd probably just replace the mobo with the cheapest I could find on ebay if you can't sort any other fix.
