Adding Sub to existing Stereo Speakers

This may be an odd question but is there a way to add a subwoofer to an existing pair of stereo speakers connected with a 3.5mm audio jack. I have a pair of speakers that are really good compared to anything of a similar size available in shops near me but they're a little bass lacking. Is there any way to add a sub to my PC while still using the speakers I have?

I believe that any powered subwoofer and a RCA to mono 3.5mm cable should work. You can plug the mono 3.5mm cable into the orange Sub/Center jack and configure your system as 2.1. You lose the ability to add a center speaker in the future, though.
