Anything I should change?

Hi all 

 

i am am planning to do a new build in two months or so which will be for drawing with photoshop and other programs, gaming at a high resolution using vr and also music production software occasionally. The only things I was concerned with was the cooler and also the psu just because I’m not sure if t psu Is to much I’d like to get the i9 to 5ghz if possible.

 

any feedback is greatly appreciated

I would consider getting a Platinum rated PSU, if not a 1000W Gold.

 

The Dark Rock Pro 4, Noctua NH-D15, and Cryorig R1 are all similar in performance. I know that the NH-D15 (I use one on a R5 2600x) is a 200W TDP air tower, so the Dark Rock should also be around there, in terms of cooling performance. The 9900k has a turbo speed of 5GHz (according to Intel's spec sheet), so with one of those 3 towers you should be able to achieve this. You could always go 240mm+ AIO and get similar or slightly better temps as well.

 

Also, if you're gaming, I would recommend getting a 1TB+ drive of some kind. PC games like to eat storage (I have approx 2.5-3TB of Steam games alone).

Hi thank you for the advice I had forgot to mention I have a 1tb hdd and a 500gb hdd from my old build which I will re use .

Ah, if you have old (but good) HDDs there's no reason to get new ones.

 

I run a Seasonic 750W Platinum, its pretty good (10yr warranty + free $25 Steam gift card). They also make some beefier PSUs as well. yeah... horrible mobo, overkill cpu, overpriced gpu, a psu with opp and otp problems, things like that... i give you a alternative

good luck with cooling a 9900k with it... it can go up to 285 (not kidding) watts of heat on a fair overclock.

 

and if you really want to go that high end, at least do it right

You could get an i5-9600k instead of the 8700k, it's cheaper and they perform similarly. They are basically matched in single core, and the i7 only edges out in multi-thread due to it's hyper-threading.

true, and with a 9600k you could step a bit down to for example a arctic freezer 33/34 esports one, a mb511, a 550 watt psu, and if wanted a less mobo, nvme only is useful for heavy loads. there is so much to step down to, but we'll first see what OP thinks...

Hi thanks for the advice. I think I’m going to go with the high end build you lister earlier.
