I am the IT support for a small company in the UK, and last week, I had a phone call from a company claiming to be Google, from their Google Ads department saying that they could help us with the Ads.

I have received many emails and so forth from other companies about SEO and Ads, the thing that has made me think is that they knew some of the details about our companies that are on Google Ads like the campaigns and so forth, without me giving them access to my account.

Has anyone else ever received a call from Google themselves in this style? or would it be a company pretending to be Google?

Thanks for your help.

Google won't contact you directly to offer service, they can do it in another way called email.

Offering SEO service is a out of their job descriptions. Its peanut to them. Why would they bother?

If someone claiming from google, i would definitely say its a scam.

If you are having google ads, then you are also promoting yourself to these scammers by just visiting your end point (website).

They can just call you at the phone number listed in the website, as simple as that.

that is what I thought, thanks for your feedback.

You'd be surprised as Google has other companies that do their marketing for them. Some of them would be part of Google.

A few years ago, I registered a personal company, which did absolutely nothing for the whole time it existed. There was no webpage, and I registered my personal email(big mistake). I received a bunch of spam email and telemarketing. One particular telemarketer claimed to be a "Google partner", and that I'd have to subscribe to their services to have my webpage indexed by Google. Now, with bullshit like this, it'd typically be accompanied by an Indian accent, and they'll be speaking English. Not this one, though, he spoke perfect Norwegian with an eastern dialect (probably Oslo).

He remained polite the whole time, though, even after I started confronting him about the fact that Google indexes everything regardless. He was just suddenly in quite the rush and very eager to hang up - politely. He got lots of calls to make and all.

I think Google will never call you. It's a known scam, though. I have also read some reports filed at

https://www.whycall.me/469-718-7238.html by people even since last year.

I think it's better to just ignore them or even block the numbers. Report the numbers to the authority, too.
