Well-rounded laptop for coding, and programming

So, I have quite a few books from various bundles on coding and programming; everything from small projects to artificial neural networks, in languages varying from Python to Java, and now to actually get around to using them. Now, I do have a desktop PC that could probably get the job done, but I prefer to read off printed media more that reading off screens, and I would also like to be more mobile with the coding, being able to take it with me if I am going anywhere, perhaps maybe getting some done during my lunch breaks at work, which is why I am looking for recommendations for a laptop, preferably one that would be able to handle an array of different tasks. And if not a specific laptop, then maybe some specs that I can use to narrow my search, as for price, currently that is not really a factor in it, as I do not mind having to save up.

But being serious for a moment, to do anything involving "AI" (in reality, Machine Learning) requires a dedicated GFX card, preferably of the nVidia sort. I do RNN (recurrent neural networks) and the software is more polished on nVidia than ATI. Food for thought.

Oh dang, I think that I have just found perfection, imma be the finest hipster in the Starbucks. xD

 

On the serious note, I have found the Lenovo Legion Y520, it comes equipped with a GTX1060 inside of it, and either an i5-7300 HQ or an i7-7700HQ, though here I am concerned with the clock of the CPU, as I don't plan on overclocking it.

Depends on what you wish to do. In ML/RNN/AI, cpu makes zero difference, it's all about the GFX card.

Clock speed is going to matter (to an extent) while gaming, and possibly compiling code, but not so's you notice on the latter.

That's a perfectly fine card. Ar you talking for gaming, or ML/AI/RNN stuff? In which case it's fine too actually. 

Come to think of it, and I didnt mention this beforehand, sorry abut that, but all the tools I use for ML are under Ubuntu. I have no idea the state of said tools under Windows. Just food for thought

im really not a ML/AI/RNN type dude but would it maybe make sence to wait for the turing 20x0 chip to come out in notebooks? wasnt there supposed to be something about the turing making it better for that type of workload?

It has tensorcores in it but I wouldn’t be training anything on a laptop.

Come to think of it, and I didnt mention this beforehand, sorry abut that, but all the tools I use for ML are under Ubuntu. I have no idea the state of said tools under Windows. Just food for thought

I mean, I might use it for light gaming, but the main purpose would be coding, and programming, I don't know how much AI/ML stuff I am gonna do, but if I am gonna do something along those lines, then I am probably try, and keep it light.

Well, the main store that I buy electronics from do have some Turing equipped laptops listed, they go for anywhere between 3500 USD to 5500 USD. This is for the RTX2080

Well, I am Denmark, and would prefer for it to sold in stores here, and not off of Amazon or eBay. As for price, the max I would probably go, would probably be somewhere around 12 000 DKK.

The Dell G5 15 with 16GB Ram, and the 2060 seems like a very attractive option, the only thing that is really off-putting; at least for me, is that it doesn't state if there is dual-channel memory, or single-channel memory. Will have to wait and see how the 2060 deals with larger programming tasks.

I did consider this for a while, looked at some refurbished laptops, but ended up with the conclusion that I would rather have a laptop that might be a bit more expensive but last me longer, rather having a used laptop for a bit, and having to upgrade, essentially buying two laptops. Plus, I plan on studying what; in Denmark, is known as Electronics & IT, electrical engineering might be the closest English translation, where programming is one of the subjects.
