So I have a strange problem : Some friends and I have organized to buy a friend an RX 580 for his PC (4460, H81I Plus, 8GB 1600Mhz, BX500 240GB, 1TB 7200RPM, Core V1, 500B) but he said he doesn't want us to spend so much money on him (160GBP, a lot of money for him, not much for any of us, i mean look at my rigs and that's not the highest end we've got as a group). How to convince him? We haven't bought it yet, but his birthday is on the 5th

If you are correct about his financial situation it may be that he doesn't want to feel dependent on you for PC parts. You could offer to split the price of a card.

Maybe your friend doesn't want a 580. Maybe he isn't that invested in gaming. Or maybe he is I don't know your him.

1) Idk maybe, but that seems like his personality

2) Not an option, his budget is 30GBP

3) A 1060 is more expensive, how would that help? Besides he doesn't care about AMD vs nVidia if thats what you mean

4) He is, also video editing

Buy the 580 > buy a dead card of lesser value > swap out the fascia and maybe stickers > don't tell him > profit?

In all seriousness, I would just do it. You all sound like a great set of lads, so reassure him that he doesn't have to return the favour. It's one of the reasons I hate Christmas so much, because people buy you gifts and the social convention is to give a gift of similar value in return. My friends and family have grown to know that I will never return that favour, but that I still love and appreciate them and any gift I receive.
