Hi!
My name is Fer,  and I'm 39 years old and don't know to much about pc's..

but I have a question.
my system is running windows 10, completely updated.

Processor    Intel Core i5-6500 @ 3.29GHz
Graphics    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
Memory    16GB DDR4
Motherboard: MSI Z170M MORTAR (MS-7972)
SSD:  Samsung 850 EVO 500GB

Now, my pc works just fine. (I think, as I don't have problems with it)
I found this benchmark thingy and this is the score I got with my system.

now, my question is:
It takes my system more than 15 minutes to start and I have absolutely no freakin idea why this is?
or how to or what to check... I know what RAM is, the videocard, the ssd disk thing.. but software or bios settings, I am TOO scared I mess things up.

anyone need more information? or maybe know what it could be?
I will add screenshots made by CPU-Z for my specs, or in case I missed something.
in case I need to provide more info, please let me know... and I apologize if I come off like a complete idiot... but I am absolutely not smart when it comes to PC hardware/software,  someone build this pc for me, and I paid 1000 Euro's (1,140.05 United States Dollars) for it.

the only thing I notice that doesn't work good, is starting up.

Please help?

There's no way it should take even 2 minutes, let alone 15. Which point of the boot-process is it that takes the longest? The BIOS-screen, the pale blue Windows 10 - logo, or where Windows has kinda-sorta started to run and there's your wallpaper visible, but it's not useable yet?

EDIT: Forgot to ask: has it been like this since the beginning, or when did it start taking so long to boot?

It's the motherboard screen from MSI GAMING (red of color)
and there's a circle made from little dots, that goes round and round, as if it is loading.
in that screen also mentioned "press F11 for bios" and something else, sorry, I forgot what else it says..

hope this info makes any sense..

It started after a few months...
I have the pc for about 2 years now more or less.

I can't figure out what type of power supply I have, I noticed this wasn't mentioned in the CPU-Z thingy..
what I do know is that the builder said it was important to have a good and strong one,
and has enough power to power everything + possible future upgrades like harddrives, or another better/newer GPU..

via Taskmanager some screens from performance, as seen on one of Linus his videos, maybe it helps?
image.thumb.png.a8eb890c7b85a6ecce730c3367aedf6f.png

Above screen is with everything closed, except the screenshot tool from windows,
screenshot below is with my opera browser on, the screenshot tool open, and the taskmanager open:
image.thumb.png.65bd6c080daa7cb34e8c688bb1be9d83.png

and one from the GPU, same things open/running as second screenshot:

Hope this helps too..

Yeah, that's the BIOS loading-screen. It doesn't look like the problem is with Windows, at least none of your screenshots show any indication of such.

Okay, that's one thing I can scrap of the list! haha

Is there some sort of diagnostic tool that check settings/hardware problems or settings that could be changed for better results?  (sorry again if I sound stupid.. I really don't know much about these things... )

**Disclaimer - Only do this if you are comfortable doing so**

I would recomend to boot into the BIOS and check your boot order.

I guess it could slow it down if it is looking for a nic boot but still not 15 mins.

If you are able to confirm the motherboard model we couyld probably talk you through defaulting the BIOS.

But i believe it would be something like.....

Boot PC tapping the F11 key,

Move over to the exit menu,

Select default settings

Save and exit.

I just checked bootsettings, and all 15 options where in use?

I removed everything and selected my hard drive (SSD Samsung Evo windows something)

No difference keep seeing this screen, for over 10 minutes now

Can it be windows that's causing it?

Can I do more? I could not find "default settings" for the main board...

I opened my PC (turned off) to see if it was a lot of dust but it wasn't that bad!

Everything is looking good otherwise...

Not sure what I can try more.. maybe I could try to reinstall Windows or something?

the Pc just started again,  took around 15 minutes still

So, boot device is now only set to my Samsung 850 EVO 500GB and something with "windows bootloader" from what I could read..    so, Windows still starts,  but takes 15 minutes.

Anything else I can check? Or maybe take screenshots from?
I really wish I was smarter with pc's, as I have absolutely no more ideas.. :(

I also went to the MSI website, selected my mainboard, and downloaded "Live updater 6.0"
and installed some missing MB drivers (none of them startup or mainboard update related)

needed to reboot, so 15+ minutes later, everything should be up to date,
yet,  I see the same older versions when starting live update...

I am lost now...
I might just leave my pc on from now, so I don't have to deal with this weird problem anymore..

anyone else got a suggestion?

That is weird. Does the board has any 'fail-safe' settings or maybe 'optimized' settings? you could try those, or atleast try the default settings (if you can find it).

There could be a possibility you need to set some things back to a correct value, but in most cases it should boot.

The thing is, I don't understand most settings in my mainboard screen...
I could not find those settings,  "default settings" or any other,
I will go and check if I can find a online manual or something, so I can at least try this out.

I do remember, when everything was installed, the guy who helped me, had to change settings from RAID to something else? (I believe he said because it's an SSD drive or something...   (I just simply don't know...)

I have this website also on my phone,  so maybe I will go to the bios now and make some screenshots...
maybe there's something people here can see and say:  heey! thats the wrong setting... or something like that..

I will try to find those settings first,  default, or optimized settings or something. :)

thanks!

I found use optimized setting, but it's now still loading to start up ...

I managed to take some pictures, and I can go into any setting to check some settings, but I do need a little help with that...  Or maybe you see something that isn't good or wrong setting from the pics?

Yes Like UrbanFreestyle said When you go to the Exit screen of the bios there should be a 'Restore Defaults' option,

the only thing i can think of is the ahci/ide SSD problem windows can have. (To fix this you need windows to boot in safe mode and then change settings in bios. correct me if im wrong pls)

Sounds about right VanHeist. I have had a look and the only other issues i can see online is related to old BIOS / Other HDD attached. I would say try to default the BIOS, maybe set fastboot on and disable MSI startup splash screen.

If the botherboard has debug codes (will be led numbers on it) that might help. it could be hanging on something?

TBH really clutching at straws.

One more chance i would say grab a spare HDD, take the SSD out and do a fresh install of windows onto the hdd and see if that helps?

SSD could be reaching write limits.

I did a benchmark test.. maybe this helps too?  Everything seems to be ok...
only the graphics card is a little "low"... not sure why,  I don't play games, but I do watch Youtube and netflix a lot, and my pc is hooked up to my LG 4K smart tv 43 inch.

results SSD (windows, everything else, like programs, are on the Seagate):
