GDDR5?

So I have a Superclocked GTX 970 with my OC'ed 2600X and plan to keep it for a couple of years while gaming at decent performance. I know it has "4GB" of GDDR5, which I see has been used for a long, long time. Will it still be capable for many years to come?

Does it really matter tbh? If the 970 can't run future games, then upgrade accordingly.

VRAM type and speed is only a limiting factor if the GPU needs more, really. And obviously GDDR5 is starting to become a limiter for higher end cards seeing as more are moving away from it.

You will run out of compute performance before the memory capacity becomes the big, real issue.

Not surprised if lower end ones stick to it, being cheaper means they could simply use more of it and compensate with a wider memory bus.

Not to mention the fact that budget cards = weaker = needing less memory sanics to begin with, therefore making even more sense just to buy older parts.

A wider memory bus adds more cost than the switch from GDDR5 to GDDR5X or GDDR6. Same with past memory generations, which is why GDDR4 and GDDR3 didn't stick around for budget cards after GDDR5 became widespread.
