Upgrade PSU

Would I be able to upgrade the PSU in an HP Compaq Elite 8100 SFF. I would want something like a 350 watt.

I want to put a low profile 1050 in it. I believe they come with a 230 watt PSU. I doubt that would be enough.

Just checked. Comes with a 240watt.

The 1050 can only draw up to 75 watts. A 240 watt PSU is more than enough.

The PSU that it has should be good for a low profile 1050.

Guarantee. What else is in the PC? I doubt it would be more than a quad core no HT, and that plus the 75 watts the PCIe slot can deliver could never go above 150 watts, because I doubt these OEM boards would support overclocking.

You will probably draw a total of 200 to 320 watts on full load.  So you make the cut barely...

Rn its going to have 4gb of ram, a i5-750, and a optical drive and hard drive. nothing else. besides keyboard and mouse

Im going to upgrade it to the 1050, 8gb of ram, and a xeon x3440

I can replace the psu with another one for 320 I believe. You can buy them ment for that system. I might do that.

Yeah you're still covered by that PSU then, that CPU shouldn't draw over 100 watts (again, overclocking not enabled) although is it supported by the motherboard?

You will come close with 350watts but it can pull ilt off.  Personally I would play safe and be sorta future proof for your next video card and get a good Gold standard 450watt psu and you will have nice breathing room instead of 300watts and coming close to choking.

I cant. Its a SFF case. You cant put a normal PSU in there and there isnt normal cables. there is only 3 cables on the psu  Its a werid one since HP made it,

I will prob just get a get the card I already was going to get, run a test to check Power usage when maxed out, then add 75 to that since the card can draw a max of 75. Thats how I i will know.

I bought a watt meter to measure PC power draw of systems I made to get a more accurate idea of what PSUs I needed. If you want to do the same, they're rather inexpensive. I bought mine for $12, and I used to get the reading I have in my signature.

That will be how much power it consumes AC. Without knowing the PSU's efficiency, you can't really tell. Also, you'll need to know how the PSU output is distributed (how much on 12V), and how much the minor rails are used.

This is a smaller PSU, but I don't think it will fit sighs.  If only it fit you would be set,  Very low cost and future proof for a 3080 RTX in the future for example.

If you PC which has a titan, i7 8086k, and other really good specs uses 400 watts at max load, I think I would be fine using a xeon x3440 and a 1050 using a 320 watt psu

So there is 320 watt PSU which has the same cables as the 240watt, are now certified by HP and they look like a normal PSU. When I actually get the PC i might mesaue and see if it would fit. If it dosent fit then I would get a 750 or 650 and use the 240watt psu,.
