If you're trying to get a super cheap build, and don't care about a lot of upgradability, and don't mind if it's using used parts, I have a couple of part lists I could give you that would be significantly more powerful.

CPU: I9-7900X RAM: 64GB (16X4) DDR4-2933 GPU: RTX 3080 MOBO: ASUS X299 Deluxe PSU: Corsair RM850 SSD: ADATA XPG SX8200 PRO 1TB HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB Case: Corsair iCUE 465X Cooler: Corsair 280 AIO

TCsubBOW? what? Watch out for cheap unpopular SSD, if the warranty under 3 years, don't do it.

Otherwise is a good build.

For $250 what kind of used build that will match this?

You should consider that the APU has RX550 class gpu.

And this upgradability is warrantied at least to 3rd gen.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

If you're using the 200GE's iGPU, go for a 2x4 set instead of a 1x8 for your RAM. 2666MHz works. TCsunbow SSDs are pretty much dumpster fires of performance and reliability. When a 240GB Inland Professional drive is $30-40, get that instead.

What exactly are you using this PC for?

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

Alright, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Meet the Xeon X3470 and Intel H55 chipset. This baby is a 4 core, 8 thread xeon which can beat the 200GE.

Intel Xeon x3470 - $32

Intel DH55TC - $38

8GB DDR3 - $27

EVGA 450BT - $28

AMD RX 570 - $90

Rando 240GB SSD - $30

Cooler Master Hyper T4 - $20

USB 2.0 to 3.0 header - $3

Total - $268, before a case

After a case  - approx. $300

If you wanted to cut costs, you can drop the cooler to get something else, drop the CPU to the x3440 or x3450, or try to find a better deal on that RX 570. Keep in mind that this setup will have limited overclocking potential, limited upgradability, but a massively increased graphics performance. I have actually built two of these exact systems and each of them worked pretty well.

TL;DR : if you want to be able to have a system now that performs ok, but is capable of being a better performing, more upgradable, and more modern machine down the road, choose the 200GE build. If you are unlikely to upgrade and just want the most performance now, take a look at the X3470 route, or even the upgraded optiplex 790/990 i7 route.

CPU: I9-7900X RAM: 64GB (16X4) DDR4-2933 GPU: RTX 3080 MOBO: ASUS X299 Deluxe PSU: Corsair RM850 SSD: ADATA XPG SX8200 PRO 1TB HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB Case: Corsair iCUE 465X Cooler: Corsair 280 AIO

I'm trying to convince a friend to move off of console and onto pc so I'm putting together a list of new parts that can beat whatever console might come out next so he can get a pc with upgrade-ability. I don't think he'd be too keen on second-hand parts and is new to pc's. I'll definitely change out the ssd to something more refutable, though on second thought it might be better to hold out a bit because I feel like AMD will release new apu's for their 3000 series sooooo.....

thanks for replying!

Good one, but that's a 10 years old CPU, you're somewhat cheating my friend.

A 2009, 1156, 45nm cpu.

Nice build, it has RX570 which is  run any games like a champ.

Good for short term but not long term.

They will launch the cpu in mid 2019, its certain.

You might wanna go with the lowest R3 3300, 6 core / 12 threads for just $99.

Giving a 6 core / 12 threads cpu for the lowest end seems too good to be true, i think 4 cores 8 threads would be logical.

If you cannot wait for june / july, getting a 200ge is the best you can do.

Once you upgraded to 3rd gen, sell it for half the price, you only loose $25.
