Stuck on White LED when trying to Boot

Hey guys,

we're hopelessly stuck on trying to fix my buddies build.

here are the hardware components:

Motherboard: Asus RoG Strix z390-h Gaming

CPU: Intel i7 8700k

GPU: RoG Strix AMD Radeon Rx Vega 64

The issue:

When trying to boot the system with the GPU we get stuck at a white LED on the motherboard indicating a problem with the GPU. When we take the GPU out the system boots normally with no problems. Now to try and troubleshoot this problem we have switched out the power supply. We tried switching the GPU out to an RX vega 56. And we tried the configuration out with an EVGA z370 ftw with no success what so ever. Both GPUs work in my build. (Ryzen 5 2600x, Asus prime x470)

This has to lead me to believe that maybe it's just a compatibility issue with the CPU Motherboard and GPU in general. Although we did research compatibility to the best of our ability we are not really experts in custom pc building.

Any help would be very appreciated.

It shouldn't be an issue related to compatibility between CPU and GPU -- at least not in this day and age with modern PC components.

I would recommend that you check the version of the motherboard BIOS, and see if it is up-to-date.

If not, have that updated, and try again.

What brand and model power supplies did you try?

Since you mentioned both the Z390 and Z370 motherboard is having similar issues, there is a possibility that the problem is with the CPU.

  • Both motherboards don't work
  • Changing out the power supply did not help
  • Changing video cards did not resolve the problem
  • Both GPUs work in your Ryzen system

What happens when you boot with the graphics card in but the display is hooked up to the motherboard instead?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

When i boot from the motherbiard absolutely nothing happens. When i boot from the gpu output the monitor recognises a signal but just turns black.

I already updated the bios, forgot to mention it.

So if compatibility is not the problem, its safe to say that the gpu is broken conaidering all the trouble shooting we did?

And the weird thing is that when the gpu is out completely the CPU and motherboard work perfectly fine.

You mentioned both video cards work in your Ryzen system, right?

That would mean the video cards are fine.

You also tried different motherboards, correct?

If so, this would rule out the problem is with the motherboard PHYSICALLY.

It would only point to the CPU... OR ... the PC case is causing some kind of issue (e.g. short circuiting the motherboard).
