SSD dying?

Hi,

 

On my main pc I get random error messages saying a file has an error or has been corrupted and windows restored it. I also got some auto reboots which result in checking the C drive. S.M.A.R.T data is good, but it's has an wear delta of 1.

 it's has only written 6 TB's to it and is about 2.5 years old. The ssd itself is an ADATA SP900.

 

Should I migrate windows to an new SSD? while I still can?

I replace my boot SSD once a year personally... can't afford re-doing all the editing and changes I done to my OS.

Invest in a high end SSD to avoid such problems and future worries (and only do a fresh install of your OS, trust me). Something like a Samsung 970 PRO (if NVME) or 860 PRO (if SATA). @Princess Cadence You really do that? Damn. That's way too much work. My Samsung 840 PRO has over 12TB of writes and still works like day one. Never had error or issue (knock on wood).

yeah I saw an 970 EVO 250 Gig m.2 for €78. is this one good enough to last for more than 2.5 years?

I don't like EVO's, they're triple level cell. But TLC has come a long way. If you can't afford the PRO line, the EVO would be your next best option. Either one is gonna outlast many PC builds.

Cloning an SSD to an SSD probably is much faster than HDD to SSD, but I can't stand cloning personally. Just brings over so much junk. I always have a pretty bad time when I do it. I guess because I have so few programs to install anyways, maybe that's why I have no problem just doing a whole reinstall.

That's unnecessarily expensive. All you need to do is make and keep images. Restoring images is fast and easy and one "heckuvalot" cheaper than replacing SSDs. If the SSD does die, slap in a new one and restore an image to it.

 

Macrium Reflect Free is excellent for imaging.
