No drives detected

Go to solution Solved by T.Vengeance,

No it's just a regular USB2 flash drive to USB2 port

You might need to initialize that hard drive using disk part in CMD from your installation USB. http://ww3.templejc.edu/prodev/CPMT2449/diskpart.pdf

Good day gentlemen, I'm currently having problems with an Asus p5k Deluxe WiFi motherboard my friend just gave me. I have a brandnew HDD that I wanted to install Windows 7 onto via USB, Everytime I get into the windows install screen it reads "No drives detected" and I can go no further. I've even tried with drives I know are working fine with still the same result. The bios recognizes that the drive is connected but windows install does not.

I've updated the bios to the latest non-beta version and I've played with the "AHCI - IDE - RAID" settings and still no dice.

I know the board is old but it's my friends only way of having a computer right now. Any Ideas?

Try a different SATA port/cable.

Try a different SATA port/cable.

+1 happened to me, and I switched cables. Turns out it worked the one prior to switching was broken inside.

Are you using USB3 for your Windows 7 installation files? Switch to a USB 2 port. Windows 7 doesn't support USB3 natively.

Not to familiar with the command prompt, how do I go about doing that?

Edit: Do I use another computer or do I bring it up from inside the windows install?

You can bring it up in the Windows install. I don't have it off the top of my head so gimme a sec to find a page/guide.

Type "diskpart" first (without the quotes)

Also, I found a more clear guide. http://www.overclock.net/t/877250/initialise-hard-drive-with-command-prompt#post_11480717
