I don't know if they stopped operating entirely or just temporal server issues as the address isn't reachable anymore right now. They are the only ones with 500TB (yeah, terabytes) limit for free users. Other than this, your ambitions are a bit high for a free service... They usually go up to 20GB (pCloud free if you get few new users via referal) and even those are already very generous ones...

You two could however go with pCloud Lifetime:

Get the 500GB plan and split the difference and it would be only one time payment of 87,50€ for each. I don't think you'll get such deal anywhere else. Plus, their software for syncing is pretty good. You can setup auto syncing of any folder and access the entire cloud account as virtual drive in your Computer panel along your physical storage drives (including file manipulation and uploading itself).

There are also P2P (free) options, but for those both of you would need your systems online 24/7 to function.

Yes, and I would like a free car. It needs to have between 500 and 1000 horse power.

Sorry but you won't find any service like that. I guess you could setup a file share and skip the cloud service. For example an FTP server. That will be free, and in terms of upload+download speed it will be faster than any cloud service you will find.

Crashplan used to have a free service that would do that but they shut that down over a year ago. Your best, and safest bet, would be for you and your friend to swap external drives.

As long as anyone is oppressed, no one will be safe and free.

One has to be proactive, not reactive, to ensure the safety of one's data so backup your data! And RAID is NOT a backup!
