Hello, so I was wondering whhat brand of CPU would be worth the price and the performance. I'm looking to spend around $250 on a new CPU. My current GPU is a Gigabyte GTX 1080. I'm looking for the best CPU to go with my 1080, to increase performance in the games I play. Currently I play cs:go, and fortnite, I'm planning on expanding towards higher graphical games in the future. CPU's around this price range that I've looked into are, I5-8600k and 9600k, and the Ryzen 7 2700x. I don't have to much experience with overclocking a CPU, but I would most likely overclock the i5's to increase performance. I don't know too much about AMD cards and what they're capable of. Please reply with some CPU suggestions with price range, and reasons behind why I should buy it.

Full specs.(CURRENT)

for pure gaming, go with intel for there IPC performance.

but in 1,5 hours there's a AMD keynote at CES, you might want to look at that as there might be new zen 2 chips

what resolution do you play on and your monitor refresh rate?

I currently play on a stretched resolution at 1250×1080, in the settings, I have tried using higher resolution and higher settings, but that just decrease performance, I currently only own a 60HZ monitor but it still  is noticeable in games even if it's only 60Hz, i am planning on getting a 144Hz or even a 180Hz once i upgrade so i can maintain those frames. Average frames are around 120-160 lowest below 100 highest around 200, depending on situation.

Would you  say these are the best CPU's to go along with a 1080? Also for the motherboard that goes with the i5-9600k do you think that a MSI Z370-A Pro, as it it about $50 less. With these CPU's added along with the rest of my setup above would my PSU be enough?

so 1080p high refresh rate. Intel CPU will be a better choice in your case. And in your price range, i5 9600k is probly the best choice. I will also suggest you to pay attention on AMD's keynote at CES today. Zen2 might be introduced and probly there will be a IPC increase, but no one knows for sure how much it will be. I doubt it will beat a overclocked intel cpu.

Also, your psu is enough for the build regardless which cpu you choose.

yep, my 1070 ti with a 8600k (which would be a little worse than your config) is doing great. no, as it is 4 against 12 phase, worse vrm cooling, looks, things like that. the capstone will be fine

Do you think there are any other motherboards that will go well with the i5-9600k? $160 is a bit expensive. Also I currently have a Cryorig h7 as my cpu cooler, and on a i7-4790 it averages around 50 c when playing, would that be good enough?

I honestly don't think it's worth it going from an i7 4790 to an i5 8600K unless you must push 144hz gaming... and if 144hz is your goal then Ryzen shouldn't even be considered.
