Still, I have a Question

Will A powerful Graphics card with less VRAM ( I'm talking about 4 to 6 GB ram) be better than a Less Powerful Graphics card with more VRAM ????

How does this work???

like GTX 980 4GB vs GTX 1060 6GB

I know that as Evolution in the gaming industry will happen the more VRAM will be added but How does this work???

what would've happened if they would've released

GTX 1080 with 6 Gigs and GTX 1060 with 5Gigs

No, vram is like ram you won't notice the extra unless you never had enough.

I may be wrong.

The GTX 980 (4GB) and GTX 1060 6GB are about equal to begin with.

If you run a game that uses eg. 5GB of VRAM, then performance on the 980 will drop hugely, while the 1060 will not be affected.

But if you run a game that uses 4GB or less, then the different VRAM amounts on each card doesn't affect performance at all.

isn't it 970=1060?

But 980 was a flagship card ??? This just means that VRAM is the only thing that matters ... 1060 is mid-range ...

my question is

If a powerful graphics card have little less ram than a less powerful card which have a better ram

which one will emerge victoriously?????

he exactly rounded up your question in the best way we can... take the advice or leave it

It was a flagship card, 5 years ago, no wonder the 1060 uses less power and is as powerful.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

Elaborate please

VRAM is RAM but on your video card near the GPU or inside the GPU in some cases such as HBM/GDDRX.

But the point is you will get more FPS if your Games need that extra VRAM although its not always the case.

You see VRAM holds data and it depends on the data that it held, Texture for example require a BIG amount of memory the Higher the quality goes but it didn't affect performance at all unless you ran out of VRAM, While anti aliasing heavily impact on the performance the higher the quality goes and it consume a lot of VRAM as well.

So it is all depends on what your GPU is currently working at, For example if you have R9 FURY X 4GB (which is a beast) running games with SSAA Maxed out VS GTX 1060 GB with the same settings then the R9 FURY would likely to win. But if you run the games with TEXTURE Quality maxed out that require more than 6GB of VRAM and only use FXAA then the 1060 6GB will be the winner.

Yeah looking at userbenchmark, the gtx 970 seems to be equal to 1060 3gb, not the 1050ti 4gb, my bad.

980 was not really a flagship, that was the 980 Ti (and Titan X).

The answer is that VRAM amount has no effect as long as you're not using more than what each card has. Once you go above what one card has, then performance drops a lot.
