THe 970 is a great 1080p card, not too good at 1440p though, at least in AAA titles.

That would do nicely. How overclocked is your CPU? Older processors can be hit or miss with high refresh rate.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

GTX 970 USED to be a good 1440p card when it first launched. however the 3.5gb of vram proves to be a limitation for the gtx 970 at high resolutions.

I'd reccomend upgrading to a gtx 1070 at least(or even a 1060 or rx 580, which is basically gtx 980 with more vram). or a gtx 1080 or rtx 2070 to take more of an advantage of the 144hz

Damn....

AAA titles with high or ultra graphics will need at least a 1080 ti.  1440p at 144hz is demanding.  You're CPU could be a potential bottleneck for higher frame rates as well.
