Hi, new to the forums. I have watched a couple vids to know that I can never get a Utopian system that has no bottleneck. I just wanted to get other peoples take. My pc is 4 years old at the point and I want to upgrade my GTX 780 ti to either a GTX 1070 or 1070 ti. My CPU is currently an i5 4690k @ 3.50GHz with 8gb of ddr3 ram which I plan to upgrade to 16gb. Probably should have done the ram upgrade earlier but what are you gonna do? I play on a 1080p 60hz TV, nothing fancy. Probably gonna get attacked for not using a monitor. I have no interest in gaming at a higher resolution or frame rate as they are fine for me. All I really just want from this is to be able to play current and the newest titles for the next few years at 1080p, consistent 60fps with high settings. I know the high settings thing is pretty vague but you know what I sort of mean. I know that bottle necking can depend on the software running so there is no way to help me with new titles that are not even out yet.

If anyone has had experience with a similar set up on current games, do you think I will run into any serious performance issues with either of the cards? Would it just be worth just investing in a whole new computer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if you do upgrade the GPU, look into getting an I7 4770K or I7 4790K aswell, i have an I7 4790K and a 1080 and its great at 1440p, before that i had an I5 4690K and a 970 and that was decent for 1080p. Judging from my I5 4690K and 1050TI system id think that the 970 would still be performing good enough at 1080p?

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I saw this idea thrown around on other forums. if I was gonna upgrade my CPU, at that point I may as well do the rest. I know that is a bit melodramatic but its probably just what I would do. As for the 970 idea, I did consider it but i would rather get the bigger upgrade and have it last a bit longer than get a smaller one.

I take your point though, if you think I need a CPU jump then you are of the opinion that I am gonna encounter a fair amount of performance issues so it is not worth it with my current set up. Thanks for the advice anyway.
