Hi guys,

I am looking for a laptop that will primarily be used for completing CAD projects. I do not have a budget but I do ride my bicycle to work so a slightly lighter laptop would be appreciated but I do understand that there will always be a certain amount of heft to a powerful laptop. What recommendations do you have?

Cheers,

Moon Rabbie

Where are you from? Usage? Preferred max weight in kg/lbs and min battery life in hours? Need good sRGB display?

I'm in Australia and the main usage is Autodesk Inventor, Ansys, and in-house model generation software for designing and virtually testing fluid flow for propulsion systems during combustion. Preferred weight would be around 3kg with a battery life of at least 4 hours. The biggest restricting factor is that I need it to fit comfortably in a backpack as I cycle to and from work. A sRGB display is not a necessity as I am primarily working with a single material and single color models but a nice display is always a welcome addition.

Thanks for the reply. One question, does your workload benefit from Quadro GPU?

So the workload is more CPU dependent?

If budget isn't a limitation, I would go for 'true' mobile workstation like Thinkpad P52

more CPU intensive

You might to consider Metabox N950TP with i7-8700 (yes, desktop CPU), however it seems like it's not available anymore
