Case I/O help

So I have never built a computer but I have a pretty large knowledge on computers and parts. However, something I simply have no idea on is how the h700 from nzxt has 2 usb 3.1 ports on the front while every motherboard I've looked at has only one internal usb 3.1 connector. Can these connections be split? Also, does the fact that the h700 only supports usb 3.1 gen 1 cause problems when most motherboards have an internal usb 3.1 gen 2 connection?
