780Ti Underperforming

vellaaa

Hi guys

im just having trouble with my new 780Ti from Gigabyte. i am playing games like assassins creed IV and COD ghosts just to test it so far and am getting significant lag in both games. In Assassins creed, i have used the recommended settings through GeForce experience and have had significant FPS drops as low as 30fps. its only when i drop settings to medium/low do i get a solid 60fps. As far as what i have seen online, people with 780Ti cards are maxing this game and still getting significantly better frame rates than i am.

i have tried uninstalling drivers and making sure they are up to date but im really not sure what to do now so any help would be much appreciated.

thanks

What is your CPU? My 4670k@4,8Ghz bottlenecks my R9 290 at 1440p ultra. AC4 is a badly ported game, and almost only uses a single thread.

Any open world game is going to be cpu intensive. What's the rest of your setup.

Off topic but, O.o who's that in your profile picture?

Console optimisations and how they will effect you | The difference between AMD cores and Intel cores | Memory Bus size and how it effects your VRAM usage |
How much vram do you actually need? | APUs and the future of processing | Projects: SO - here

Intel i7 5820l @ with Corsair H110 | 32GB DDR4 RAM @ 1600Mhz | XFX Radeon R9 290 @ 1.2Ghz | Corsair 600Q | Corsair TX650 | Probably too much corsair but meh should have had a Corsair SSD and RAM | 1.3TB HDD Space | Sennheiser HD598 | Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro | Blue Snowball

Well that shouldn't bottleneck it to hard so what is the rest of your system other then that? Do you for example got 4 GB of RAM or some other bottleneck like that?

if it is the CPU possibly bottlenecking it, would have getting a i7 have helped at all?

Check is your cpu usage at 100 when you play.

Practically the only difference between the 4670k and 4770k is that the 4770k supports hyperthreading, so it can simulate 8 cores, however it are actually 4. And Intel put much more marketing budget in their i7's. But because this game leans on one thread, it won't make a difference (when ignoring the slightly higer clock speed of the 4770k). What I would do is

  • Install the newest Nvidia drivers.
  • Install GPU-Z and check if your GPU is loaded (100%?)
  • Open task manager and see how your CPU usage is.
  • Overclock your CPU.

one thing i still dont understand is the poor performance in COD ghosts and borderlands 2. I mean i bought this card thinking that it would destroy games like that and even games like assassins creed

COD Ghosts is for peasants.

I don't know anything about borderlands 2 though. Graphics look interesting, maybe I will give it a go in the next steam sale.

You could try 3dmark or unigine valley and compare that to results of others. Or battlefield 3/4, Crysis 3, Tomb raider or another fairly well optimized game.
