2 different GPU’s

MasonCase

So I had a thought today when I saw a picture of another setup with 2 different gpu’s in it and it got me thinking.

I currently use a 1070, but I have a spare 1050 and 660 sitting around. Would I save myself some frames by throwing the 660 in my machine and using it for my 2 side monitors (1080p 144hz and 1080p 60hz) and my monitor I game on (1440p 165hz) on my 1070. While also using the 660 to encode. I’m confident my psu can hold up. Good idea or not?

Merry Xmas everyone

I use a second card for my other monitor. Simply to make connecting them easier as in port specific limited.

Cant say it effects frames but I also don’t think about it. Just use it to watch temps and usage and have teamspeak running.

Main RIg Corsair Air 540, I7 9900k, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero, G.Skill Ripjaws 3600 32GB, 3090FE, EVGA 1000G5, Acer Nitro XZ3 2560 x 1440@240hz

No, only AMD's crossfire works with linking two different gpu's (and even with that i'd have mix feelings), the 660 will only output the image, but the processing will still be done by the main card, the 1070. The only thing you could do is dedicate the 660 to physX, but results may vary with this (some benchmarks may show a drop in performance, while with games its either a decent positive bump in performance or no noticeable increase in performance at all).

I’m not trying to link them I was just thinking to encode while I’m gaming instead of having my 1070 do it to save a few frames
