headphones + mic issues

I tried looking it up, nothing worked. I have headphones with a microphone connected, and I cannot get them to work at the same time. I have to either use the mic or just have headphones, will not work at the same time. IDK what is going on so that is why it is a bad description.

which headphones?

4 conductor 3.5 mm?(3 black rings around it)?
