Gigabyte Z390 elite power connectors question

RollTime

I got a new motherboard recently and this is the CPU power connector design:

I’ve not seen this design before. Currently I don’t have a cable set up from my PSU to supply the 4 pin connector. Is this just for extra power or is it necessary? I’ll be running an 8086k overclocked so I don’t think I need the extra power.

it's time

The 4 pin is all you need, if your power supply doesn't have it, and your old motherboard only had a 4 pin, you should be fine.

It actually had only a 6. I’m going to assume that’s fine as well?

That sounds like the PCIe connectors for the GPU.

Heres my logic: If this new motherboard has the same connectors as your old one, and everything worked fine. Then it should be fine.

For anything non-extreme (read: water, AIO and air) there is no point in the second power connector. Just plug in the 8 pin unless your PSU already has a second connector. It doesn't hurt but is absolutely not needed.

Xeon e5649@4.4 GHz on Asus Rampage II Extreme or Gigabyte x58a-OC (whatever I feel like to set up at a time) , 6x4 GB Kingston HyperX 1600, Gainward GTX 670 Phantom, Samsung 840 Evo 240 GB, BeQuiet L8 530W
