Hi,

Recently, I have replaced my 4G RAM memory card by a 8G one. When I boot with the new card, I get a black screen and Windows cannot start.

If I check in the BIOS, I can see that my 8G memory is seen with the same speed as the 4G card. I attempted to run a diagnostic test on the memory but I get the same black screen and nothing happens.

I attached a picture showing the 2 memory cards side by side.

Can anyone see something that could cause an incompatibility?

For information, my computer is a Dell Inspiron 3472. I know that the new memory card works fine because I have tested it in another computer and this time, Windows runs normally with the additional memory.

Thanks!

Try setting the BIOs settings back to factory defaults, and see if it will start-up properly.

Did you check to make sure this DELL PC can support 8GB RAM modules?

Hi Rascal,

According to Dell Specs page, yes, it does support 8 GB RAM:

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/jp/ja/jpbsd1/inspiron-3472-desktop/inspiron_3472_setupandspecs/memory?guid=guid-0f3cc35e-8c93-4d44-95fa-c85c1052cc2a&lang=en-us

I have resetted the BIOS settings back to factory defaults but it doesn't change anything. If I put back the 4 GB RAM card, it works normally.
