Gigabyte GTX 960 G1 Gaming - can't reach high overclocks?

~Lachlan

Hey,

I've been trying to overclock my card lately but can't seem to reach anywhere near the clocks other people are reaching. Using MSI Afterburner and can't seem to get more than +80mhz without increasing voltage or +100mhz with some voltage tweaks.

As per this post here - http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3439503/overclocking-gigabyte-nvidia-geforce-gtx-960-4gb.html

OP was able to achieve this with his card:

GPU Clock +160MHz
Power limiter 134%
Mem Clock +450MHz
Voltage 63Mv

Using the same settings causes my FurMark to crash instantly and for games to freeze. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Lachlan

possible just bad silicon lottery.  when i had my 960, it wouldnt go any faster unless i increased the voltage

You shouldn't have to play with voltages to get the OC you have.  I guess perhaps the cards default voltage is really low and what not.

Must be a bad silicon stuff.
For reference i have GTX 960 4GB from Gigabyte.
I can't touch the 1500Mhz on core clock ( on default voltage ) its like hell to this card LOL.
Though i can go upto 1495Mhz on core. As per performance there is only 5-9Fps increase in games.

Ryzen 5 3600 | MSI B450 Tomahawk Max | Corsair Vengeance lpx 32gb 3600mhz | EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING | XPG Core Reactor 850w
