Posted December 16, 2018 You might want to wait and see what happen at CES. Rumor is that AMD will be announcing a new range of GPUs (Navi) aimed at RTX 2070 or maybe 2080. Even if you are going to buy Nvidia it's worth waiting a little as there will hopefully be a price drop before the AMD cards are launched. As far as 1080 Ti vs 2080 Ti goes: the 2080 Ti much faster than the 1080 Ti, even when it was brand new. If you want the fastest GPU in the world then get the 2080 Ti. Nothing is faster right now and probably nothing will be pre 2020 except the RTX Titan when it launches. The 1080 Ti is approx the same speed as the 2080 (non Ti), but is an older card without ray tracing features, although it does have more VRAM. Posted December 16, 2018 I dont really have experience with the 1080 ti either the 2080 ti. I mostly heard that RTX decreases your FPS enormly. If you dont wanna spend too much money on a GPU, i would advise you a GTX 1080 ti. It could be a problem with RTX on if you have more than 1 Monitor running on 4k. If you dont really care about money to spend on a GPU i advise you to buy an 2080 ti because it has more performence than a normal 1080 ti. For the CPU, I'm currently inbetween 9700K or the 9900K. I haven't settled on one yet because I am still playing around with the GPU. Posted December 16, 2018 If all you are doing is gaming then I would get the 9700K and spend the money you save compared to the 9900K on good cooling (water). You want the highest possible clockspeeds for gaming. Hyper-threading is useless on most games, 8 cores/threads is more than many game engines can handle anyway. While the main use for the computer is gaming, I do dual boot to Linux for my 9-5. I run VMs and compile software. You should look at Linux benchmarks to see if it is really worse the extra money.
