Old Motherboard Comparison

Hi All,

 

I currently have an older system based around an i5-4670k in an Asus Maximus VI Formula mobo. A friend of mine is parting out an old PC for a family member and it has an Asus Z97-PRO GAMER mobo in it.

 

From the limited amount of research that I've done, it seems like a much more budget board, so i'm just wondering if there would be any noticeable advantage to swapping over?

well, it looks fine for most of the things. it will just be a bit limited with overclocks and features. but it looks like a mainstream mobo to me

Thanks for this, I guess my question is what will i gain? Both mobos are fully functional, but the Formula that i'm currently using was a much higher grade mobo back in it's generation... Would changing to a Z97 chipset offer anything useful?

Only m.2 support, nothing else. Your current motherboard is good enough. Great in fact.

And damn - you have 10 sata ports, it's pretty cool, I would like to have that much. Now I must use onboard and extra pci-e controller and still I have "only" 8.

That's what i thought, but thought i'd let the oracles of knowledge here confirm for me
