This is my very first post in this forum, after all the WAN Show marketing comming from Linus, he finally convinced me, from what I've read so far I can tell this is indeed a fantastic community.

Now, onto what we came for.

This is the list of proposed parts I've been considering for my first PC build, prices are in MXN since I'm mexican, as you can possibly tell from the GPU this is not aiming to be a gaming PC rather than a entry-level workstation, I'm an Engineering student so most of the time I'm on Solidworks, Catia V5, FeatureCAM, sometimes for my other subjects I need to use things such as Premiere Pro and the rest of the CC Adobe Suite.

The left side of the table I like to portray it as the "Basic" section and next to it I listed some upgrades I think could help in the performance of the machine without truly increasing the base cost of the system itself.

Mostly I'm looking for recommendations you might have in part selection as well as some "Pro-tips" for when I actually start building and the process after that.

A couple of things I have already considered are:

  • The system is nowhere near demanding 750W of power, however I really want some breathing room for future upgrades and as a consecuence of being a mexican (?) lower wattage PSU's are actually more expensive and harder to get
  • I'm trying to get in touch with my ISP so that my router is moved closer to where the machine will be so that a wi-fi card won't be required, but I'm certain that ISP's are as tedious to handle in Mexico as well as any other country
  • I know I'll definitely need more storage, specially if I go with the 250GB SSD rather than the double capacity one, for that I'm considering a Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD since I truly don't need anymore storage after that.
  • I'm 99% certain that the RAM upgrade is mandatory since Solidworks (and Chrome lol) eat lots of RAM I'm mostly concerned in the DIMM's compatibility with Ryzen

I think that is it, thank you all in advance for your time and future advice.

Cheers from TacoLand!

You'll soon likely see loads of PCPartPicker.com lists, you should make one of your own and add it to the original post. It's a hell of a lot easier than Excel.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?
